Canvas

I just received my 1st canvas. I took this picture in Coeur d'Alene, ID. We were hiking with our dear friends. I love the way it turned out. The picture I took of the canvas is not so good, but you can get the idea. canvaspeople.com

Turning Coupon Scores into Garage Sales Profit

With all the coupon blogs and the TLC show, "Extreme Couponing", it seems that coupon shopping is the cool thing to do. Yet, it may just be that I have reached that stage in my life where coupon shopping is where the excitement is. I admit it, I find it fun and a bit addicting. I coupon, yes, but I do not go crazy with it. I usually only buy 1-3 of an item. Yesterday I stopped at a garage sale (yes, I also love garage sale shopping). At this sale there were 2 long tables filled with toiletries, cleaning products, cat food and some cereal. There was a huge stockpile of items I recognized as being recent coupon deals. I asked the lady if she was a couponer and she said she was as well as her daughter and that this stock was mostly from her daughters shopping trips. She was selling these Root Awakening shampoos and conditioners for $2.50 each which normally retails at approx $7.00 each. It's a great deal for those that do not coupon. Yet, for some reason I found this wrong. For one, there was so much product there that I have to wonder if this couponer was one of those that clear the shelves and do not leave any for other shoppers. But also I think about how this person got it for free or dirt cheap and is turning it around and making money off of it. Yes I know, that is business and if she is great a couponing then she can do this is she wants...but there is a moral line. Things that come to mind, 'pulling the wool over ones eyes', ripping someone off. Again, I admit that she is selling them at a much better price than retail. Hmmm. Maybe I am way off. When it comes to couponing, getting items for free or really cheap, IMO one should get as many as they need or some extra to give away or to donate...not 35 shampoos. I mentioned my garage sale 'find' to my hubby and he does not see anything wrong with this. Any thoughts?

Hitting a Wall

I adore this photo of Pookie. It was taken by a dear friend of mine last summer at sundown on the beach. This is the original here.

I'd like to add a bit more contrast, color and in general, give it more life. It looks a bit washed out. However, I am having so much trouble with it. No matter how I edit it the colors are either too red, yellow and not really brightening in anyway. I do not have a fancy editing program. I will just keep working with it. Here is what I have so far.

Ok, so I took a break and here I am a few hours later and I am much happier with where I am going with this photo. Here is where I am now:
I know I have SO much more to learn, but I am having orgasmic amounts of fun.

Style

My silly Pookie has been wanting to wear his pants backwards the past few days. Apparently he also likes the thug style too.

My Favorite

Photography

For my senior project 17 years ago, I did it on photography. I have had a love for photography since I was a youngin' but I never had an aspiration to do it for a living. But now that I have the time to play around with photography and I have muses that live in the home with me, I am having so much fun with the it all. Especially the editing process. I have never been much of a writer, hence the reason for the emptiness of the blog here and since I think my friends on Facebook are sick of all the photos I keep uploading, I am going to share them here.

Share the Road

Two CAR lane, winding road, no bike lane, going up or down a mountain, through a forest is not the wisest choice of place to ride ones bike. When a car is turning the sharp bend, the driver can not see a biker on the other side. When the car does turn the bend, BAM, there is a bike rider in the middle of the road. Hmmm, might want to reconsider riding on that road! Share the road please and take strong consideration where you ride.

Confession #1

Generally, I do not like people. I do include myself in this generalization. I am not happy with this; I do WANT to love people. I, in fact, love individuals but the general public....no. I am a believer in the Holy Bible and in God's word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Mark 12:31); which I guess I do since I find myself equally frustrating and annoying. But I digress, as this is not to be a confession about how much I want to get away from myself but how much people can get to me. Now, I am not one of those people that walks around with a scowl on there face, angry at everyone. I WANT to do good and I try to be considerate, polite, kind, helpful and giving. With that being said, I am in a, "I really dislike people!" kind of mood.

After a long day at a carnival/car show I made the bad decision to go to the grocer. While there, Pickle dropped our drink and it spilled all over the floor. I had nothing to clean it up with and I did not want to leave it so that no one would slip on it. So I rolled the cart, which both boys were sitting in, over the spill and looked around for some napkins or something to clean it up with along with a worker. Nothing or no worker to be found. I was about 20 feet from the deli and I saw that there were about 4 people waiting to be helped. Hmmm, no help there. I could not leave the kids to go walk to find a worker as they are only 2 and 4.

So I stood where the spill was and waited for the deli worker to be free. A few minutes go by and a few customers take off, presumably because they are sick of waiting. I walked up to the deli and left the kids in eyes view to see if I could quickly ask for some napkins. No luck, the customer was asking "can you now slice it a little thinner so I can see what it looks like". I did not want to interrupt. So I walked back to the kids. "How can I do the right thing here", I am asking myself. Still, no worker around. I wait a few more minutes. I go back to the deli and the lady is again asking to see another slice. I am getting frustrated. I start to ask for paper towels but the worker does not hear me as she is walking to slice the meat again. I was asking quietly as I was hesitant to interrupt. I walk back to the kids. Still no one. This is going on 10 minutes, I am guessing. I walk back to the deli as I cannot stand in line because I will be leaving the kids for far to long to do that and I did not want to lose my opportunity to ask the deli worker for help when this current customer is done. When I approach the deli, the customer is again asking the deli worker to again slice again, to see a thinner slice. I am annoyed fully at this point. So, after she finishes talking I ask the deli worker if I can quickly get some paper towels. She tells me there is a Starbucks down the way and there are napkins. I explain the situation and apologize to the customer. The deli worker gets paper towels and the customer looks at me snobbishly and says, "I don't care. Why don't you just take them with you to get napkins!". I explain that the cart is covering a huge soda spill and I don't want to leave my kids alone to get the napkins. The way she had spoken to me was so meanly that I did not respond in a nice voice, either. She continues to tell me she does not care about my kids or my situation. I say, "you don't care about the possibility of someone getting hurt or that if I leave my kids, they can get hurt?". She rudely, pompously tells me she does not care. It continued for a few more similar sentences but this is the gist of her rant.

This lady is in her late 40's or early 50's and getting this upset about something so small. Yes, I interrupted and if it was me and someone interrupted me at 1st I would be annoyed, yes. But after hearing the situation I would completely understand. I was fuming and so pissed I was shaking and I could not focus on my shopping. Then I just got annoyed with myself for letting this complete stranger get to me so badly. I am too much of a people-pleaser. And considering my view of people, if I don't change how I deal with my people-pleasing behavior then I will end up in a loony bin! If you read this huge rant about something so small, thank you! And yes, I realize that I got so upset about something so small just like this lady did. I am no better.

31 Ways to Pray for Our Children

This list was put together by Bob Hostetler and I found it very helpful.

Last forever

Words to melt my heart...
"Mommy, I want you to be my kids mommy"

First Haircut (16 Months old) & a Little Blackmail Bonus

Dan and I love Pookies hair so much that we just let it grow. I planned on letting it grow a bit long, a little surfer or skater style. When we cut Pickles hair the first time it grew back really coarse so I have not wanted to cut Pookies. However, while at the grocery store a woman called our boy a "she". I just could not let that happen, so I relentlessly cut his hair. I did not shave it but kept some of the length so he still has his soft hair. Yet he now looks like a toddler and not a baby. =(

After bath he had a blast running around nakie, as wee ones do. Of course he has a blast playing with his little friend. I realized that I do not let him run around naked nearly enough because it was like he found a long lost friend. I even have video which can be used in the teens years as blackmail. However, considering that I am already posting some of these blackmail pictures, by the time I can use them as blackmail he will not care as he will be used to me showing people. Oh well, reality is I have no plans to blackmail my kids.

The Diego Sway

I am making a huge assumption here that Pookie is hearing the "Go, Diego, Go" theme song in his head when Daddy says Diego because this is the same dance he does when he hears the song.

Innocence

During dinner while Nonna and Papa were visiting, Nonna got up from the table to get something in the kitchen. Pickle lovingly says, "Nonna has a BIG booty". Nobody says anything (I was sick on the couch). Pickle says it again all sweetly (really, he was saying this with love), "Nonna has a BIG booty" but this time he adds, "Nonna eats too much" and again, "Nonna has a BIG booty". Finally I hear laughter. Nonna laughs and says, "yeah, Nonna does have a big booty huh. But you love me even with a big booty." Pickles says, "I love you no matter how big your booty is!".

Lunch Time

Today while Pickle was eating his lunch, his favorite, peanut butter and jelly, I sat and ate slices of smoked cheddar cheese. I asked him if he wanted some cheese & he said he did. He tried a slice and then asked for some more so that he can put them on his PB & J sandwich. I gave his more, he put it on his sammie, he ate it and he liked it. This from a boy who will not eat the dinner I cook. I think I am offended.

Just a Couple of Sweet Photos

Our boys melt my heart. I just cannot put it into words, although all you parents out there know how I feel.

Sweet Boy Pookie's 1st Birthday

I know everyone says this, but where did the time go? This year has gone by so darn fast. And what a blessed year it has been. Sweet boy has brought so much love and joy into this home. He is just an incredibly delightful boy. I cannot imagine life without him. In fact today in the car, Pickle asked about one of his friends who is an only child. He asked if he had a brother. I told him no and he said, "Awe". I asked him what he thought about that and he said that he thinks that is sad. I asked him why he thought that and he said, "maybe he (his friend) is angry or sad about not having a brother." That made me feel all warm inside. Pookie has bettered the life of each person in this family and I pray he knows just how special he is and that he is loved immensely!

Pookie's birthday started out with a wee playgroup party, 20 something kids and adults in our cozy living room. Pookie was quite confused with all the commotion but eventually adjusted to all the people in his home and joined in the play. He seems to not enjoy a lot of people around him, his dad says he takes after him, not a social butterfly.

Can you make them leave?

He enjoyed his cupcake cake and was slow to dig into it, but eventually he did.

Waiting patiently for cake, although he had no idea what was going on.

After a long nap he opened presents and totally digged his new 4-wheeler. He also loved a card that he got from friends O1 and O2, it was an Elmo card that just made him giggle and giggle. The beloved Elmo card
After presents Nonna and Papa arrived. Pickle was SO ecstatic but birthday boy was not happy about this. He is still getting to know them and was a little scared about who the strangers in the house were."Who is this guy?"

As a special treat we all went out to dinner, Red Robin.
We had a nice time and the boys had wonderful behavior. So ready for bed!

The birthday day was perfect, however when dad went to wake Pookie up the next day he was in a crib full of vomit. Poor boy had the stomach flu and never made a peep. That's our boy, he LOVES to sleep. He will not even wake to let us know he vomited. Quite scary really.

***WE LOVE YOU SWEET BOY! MAY YOUR SECOND YEAR ON EARTH BE FULL OF AN ABUNDANCE OF JOY, BEAUTY AND LOVE!!***

I just had to share this video of sweet boy just waking from nap. 11 months old here, he is just so happy and won't take his favorite Thomas the Train towel out of his mouth. He melts my heart!

How About We Change the World

As I type this it's breakfast time and each morning the boys get to watch 2 shows. Since teaching Pickle problem-solving skills he knows all about compromise. Lately when I need him to obey and he does not get a choice I have been saying, "I understand how you feel & I hear what you are saying, but this is not a compromise". So, just now after we discussed which show to watch next he tells me:

"This IS a compromise, how about we change the world and watch TWO shows?"

Ummm what? First off you DO get to watch 2 shows.

The Boy Loves Whistles!!

Pookie is walking now and that has helped his personality flourish even more. His favorite thing to do as of recent is to walk around the circle in our house and blow whistles. We have a few of them and I have even seen him whistle with 2 in his mouth and clap at the same time. So funny!
